Level Best Books is an independent publishing cooperative
devoted to publishing literature we enjoy and want to share with other
readers. Partners Kate Flora, Ruth McCarty, and Susan Oleksiw, authors
ourselves, are primarily interested in works of fiction. The cooperative
has published five anthologies: Undertow:
Crime Stories by New England Writers (November 2003); Riptide
(November 2004); Windchill
(October 2005); Seasmoke
(November 2006); and Still Waters
(November 2007). We plan to publish a collection of crime stories each
fall, which will be introduced at the New England mystery conference
Crime Bake.
Submissions now closed for our Sixth anthology, Deadfall.
We are seeking original crime stories by New England writers in the
following genres: mystery, thriller, suspense, caper, and horror.
Level Best Announces Cover Photo Contest
Level Best Books is holding a contest to select the cover for
this fall's anthology, titled Deadfall.
Photographs should be original, the property of the photographer, and
not previously published.
Photographer must be willing to give Level Best use of the photograph
for cover and cover reprint purposes, and
for use in advertising the book.
Photographs must have a resolution of at least 300 dpi and be of a New
England location.
Winner receives $100.00 and publication on the anthology cover. An authorship
credit will appear in the book.

Submission
criteria:
• Stories should be no more than 5,000 words in length and should
not have been previously published, including on the web via an e-zine
or your own website.
• Each story should be 12 pt., double-spaced.
•In the upper right-hand corner, please include your name and
address, phone number, e-mail address, and word count.
• Please submit hard copy with a SASE and include a brief cover
letter describing your publishing experience. We do not accept electronic
submissions.
• Level Best Books will accept submissions from November 20, 2007
to March 31, 2008.
